A brief addendum to Mark Conrad's message. After producing _The Law
Practice of Abraham Lincoln: Complete Documentary Edition_ on DVD-ROM, the
Lincoln Legal Papers is now creating microfilm preservation copies of the
images and data. To preserve the database, one of our editors converted an
Access 97 database into an ASCII data stream and prepared detailed
instructions on how to reassemble the database from the ASCII data stream.
The ASCII data stream and related directions were then printed out and
microfilmed along with the images that make up the bulk of the edition. We
plan to migrate the database and images to new formats and media as
technology advances.
