Registration is required. All participants will receive online access to

Anne Lipow, director of Library Solutions Institute is an internationally
recognized expert on implementing virtual reference services. She recently
published The Virtual Reference Librarian's Handbook. At this workshop Ms.
Lipow will address some of the special challenges libraries throughout the
world are facing today. Libraries and librarians need to undergo change if
they are to remain relevant in a world in which, on the one hand,
information seekers who once relied on the library are turning to
alternatives resources; and, on the other hand, technological advances
enable library workers with lesser education to accomplish work
traditionally reserved for librarians. Ms Lipow will discuss how reference
librarians are responding to these trends by moving the desk (and
themselves) onto the Web to provide point-of-need service. She will offer
some practical ideas on how to implement virtual reference procedures.
