The European Cultural Foundation announces the position of an 

EXPERIENCED PORTAL DEVELOPER 
of the "Laboratory of European Cultural Cooperation"


Function: Portal developer of the "Laboratory of European Cultural
Cooperation" 
Location: Amsterdam, The Netherlands
Closing date: 21 February 2005
Contract: initially 12months (with the option to be prolonged); Starting on:
15 March 2005
	

A private-public consortium led by the independent European Cultural
Foundation (ECF) has launched an innovative project called the 'Laboratory
of European Cultural Cooperation' (The LAB). The LAB's main aim is to
intensify and enhance cultural cooperation and intercultural dialogue in the
broader Europe by
1. Setting up a new European Portal to Cultural Cooperation, providing
comprehensive and coordinated information, knowledge and services while
optimising and coordinating existing resources, as well as providing a
dynamic and interactive tool for cooperation. 
2. Generating new knowledge by monitoring and analysing activities and
trends in transnational cultural cooperation and commissioning selected
research projects.
3. Developing a platform for innovative pilot schemes to encourage
cooperation and mobility. 
4. Creating communication and dialogue between a wide range of actors in the
cultural sector.
The LAB is being launched as an initial four-year pilot project (2004-2008)
based on a broad partnership platform, networking structure, and shared
ownership with Europe's cultural stakeholders. 

TASKS

*	Implement, test and develop the (open source) software components of
the Portal to Cultural Cooperation (Platform, CMS, Crawler Software, Index
and Search Engine, Portal Software)
*	Contribute to overall technical development of the Portal,
especially its innovative interactive components (in cooperation with the
Portal Manager and the external technical consultant) 
*	Support investigation and implementation of classification system
and metadata (in cooperation with Portal Manager and external Consultant)
*	Secure Communication between internal and external members of LAB
Team regarding the technical development 

SKILLS 

*	Higher Education or University degree in relevant field of expertise

*	5 years development experience  
*	Extended knowledge and working experience with Apache, C-C++, PHP,
SQL, ASP, JASP, Javascript, Linux, Flash, Tomcat, XML and CSS
*	Proven expertise regarding installation, development and testing of
open source software, such as Open CMS and uPortal 
*	Experience with participatory rapid application development
*	Experience with setting up portals for multilingual and
transdisciplinary user groups
*	Experience with and understanding of intercultural communication and
collaboration in a transnational European context
*	Fluent in English and one other European language 
*	Communicative and cooperative working attitude
*	Output driven and independent worker

*	Envisaged start: 15 March 2005

in Amsterdam
