[InetBib] Virtual Research Environment Landscape Study report available

Liebe Listenmitglieder,

der Report ueber internationale Virtuelle Forschungsumgebungen koennte
einige von Ihnen interessieren, u.a. da er auch auf die Rolle von
Bibliotheken in diesem Kontext eingeht.

Researchers increasingly use the Internet to communicate, collaborate
and share information and data - particularly in projects that cross
institutions, countries and, in some cases, even continents. Academic
institutions are evaluating or deploying information management systems
that facilitate sharing of expertise and collaboration among their staff
and provide support for project management.

To support its own Virtual Research Environment programme and to
facilitate international dialogue on this topic, JISC has commissioned
the VRE Landscape Study. The study aimed to investigate international
developments in Virtual Research Communities (VRCs) and to evaluate them
in relation to the activities in the JISC's VRE programme. The study
examined programmes in a number of key countries along with significant
projects and communities as well as some countries where developments on
this front are just beginning.

The VRE Landscape Study report makes recommendations that should be of
interest to funding bodies and institutions as well as researchers and
staff involved or interested in VRE projects. It contains some 20 case
studies that capture lessons learned from VRE projects across the globe
(including Europe, America, Australasia and Africa) and across the
spectrum of subject disciplines. The study was conducted by the Centre
for e-Research at King's College London and the Oxford e-Research Centre
at Oxford University; authors of the report are Annamaria Carusi and
Torsten Reimer.

The report is now available for download from the JISC website at:
