Dear all,

We are happy to announce, that BASE (www.base-search.net) has reached
another milestone with indexing more than 50,000,000 OAI-records.

The records are provided by about 2,700 repositories worldwide. In
this year alone, we have indexed about 10,000,000 records.

The ongoing growth of repositories and the development of BASE are
reflecting the overall importance of repositories as the backbone of
the OA infrastructure.

Repositories do not only contain theses and preprints anymore, like in
the beginning, instead they are becoming the platform for the whole
publication output of academic institutions (the more OA the better),
they contain large digital OA text collections, research data and even
ebooks. We therefore strongly believe, that repositories have to be
the major driving force for OA in the future.

About BASE:

BASE is a multi-disciplinary search engine for academically relevant
OAI-Sources worldwide, which was created and developed by Bielefeld
University Library. BASE makes it possible to search for more than
50,000,000 documents across 2,700 repository servers worldwide and is
one of the biggest search engine for academic OA documents and
publications.
