Become part of the Policy & Advocacy team at the International Federation of 
Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) and help shape IFLA's policy and 
advocacy work through a wide range of professional tasks.  Under the general 
direction of the Director, Policy and Advocacy, your responsibilities include 
carrying out in-depth desk research, supporting managers in producing position 
and discussion papers, supporting the work of IFLA units engaged in policy 
matters, monitoring issues that affect libraries, drafting and disseminating 
high-quality communications on policy and advocacy issues, and planning 
activities to support IFLA's policy objectives in collaboration with other 
staff.

Location

The Hague (next to Central Station of The Hague) in The Netherlands
Key areas of Responsibility

  *   To undertake in-depth desk research and analysis and to produce briefing 
papers, case studies and other materials for managers, IFLA units and members 
that will contribute to IFLA's policy and advocacy activities;
  *   To provide professional-level support to IFLA managers, committees, 
advisory boards and sections. Tasks include monitoring relevant information, 
coordinating participation at workshops and events, and drafting reports;
  *   To provide support to the preparation of policy-focused workshops and 
other events, for example, identifying potential programme concepts, drafting 
workshop materials, tracking deadlines, and monitoring expenditures against 
budget;
  *   To write high-quality communications in support of IFLA's policy and 
advocacy work and to disseminate them via appropriate channels, including the 
web, social media and mailing lists;
  *   To ensure that strong connections are established and maintained with 
other activities of IFLA that impact on policy and advocacy work, for example, 
the professional programme;
  *   Monitoring the potential effects of trends, international conventions and 
treaties, activities of international organizations and policy initiatives that 
may affect the environment in which libraries operate.

Desired skills and experience

  *   Excellent knowledge of library and information services and related 
policy issues;
  *   Strong research skills;
  *   Outstanding communication skills in English, both written and oral and 
fully competent in using the web and social media;
  *   Have a sense of diplomacy and the ability to convey this in writing
  *   Demonstrable interpersonal skills, able to relate to people from a wide 
range of cultures and backgrounds;
  *   Demonstrable understanding of the policy process, including policy 
development;
  *   Demonstrable project management skills;
  *   Awareness of issues in the information environment, the library 
profession;
  *   A commitment to participative management practices, workplace diversity 
and to working effectively within a team environment;
  *   Experience in working in a distributed, international team;
  *   Proficiency in one of the other official languages of IFLA (Arabic, 
Chinese, French, German, Russian, Spanish);
  *   Experience in an international membership organisation.
Qualifications

  *   Degree in library or information studies or an equivalent qualification
  *   A higher degree, or its equivalent, in library or information studies or 
a related field (desirable)
Salary
The gross monthly salary offered will be Eur3.222 per month in line with the 
Collective Agreement of Public Libraries in The Netherlands. You will also 
receive a holiday allowance (8% of your annual salary), an end of year bonus 
and enjoy 25 days of holidays per year.
