                DIRECTOR, FAIFE

The present Director of the IFLA FAIFE Office, Jan Ristarp, has recently
retired. We are therefore seeking to appoint a new Director for this
important and exciting initiative.

The FAIFE Office is a core activity of IFLA, established in 1998. It
represents the interests of the international library community in the
principles of free access to information and freedom of expression.

We are seeking a Director who can build on the initial achievements of the
Office.  The successful candidate will:
·     Have a firm commitment to intellectual freedom and human rights
·     Be a self-starter, with good ability to consolidate initiatives
·     Have strong consultative and representational skills
·     Preferably have a strong background in the library profession
·     Be fluent in written and spoken English.

The office is currently located in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The salary is equivalent to approximately US$ 50,000 annually, but is
negotiable.

The appointment will be for three years.

Closing date for applications: Friday, 10 November 2000
Interviews are expected to take place on Friday, 8 December 2000 in The
Hague, Netherlands.
