Abbott offers a full-time job position for a Biomedical Information Research 
Specialist in Hannover:


Primary function
The Biomedical Information Research Specialist conducts searches in Abbott 
internal, Abbott licensed and publicly available information resources. He/She 
develops and maintains effective relationships with clients by understanding 
their information needs for timely delivery of comprehensive, cost-effective 
and relevant information.

Major duties
* Consults with broad range of scientific clients to define information needs 
and develop appropriate information strategies applicable to the information 
requests submitted.
* Selects appropriate and relevant information resources according to search 
request from biomedical, pharmaceutical, clinical and other suitable online 
database vendors and hosts.
* Translates search request language into applicable search strategy and 
retrieval syntax according to vendor systems and database specifications.
* Conducts accurate, comprehensive and cost-effective online database, Intranet 
and Internet searches for scientific (biomedical) literature to identify 
published and internal information pertinent to clients' needs.
* Analyzes search results to select and provide information relevant to 
clients' problems; prepares a report of search results for the client.
* Recommends additional information strategies and solutions to supplement the 
literature search in response to clients' needs.
* Assists clients in obtaining access to other end-user information services 
offered by the department, other corporate sources, or commercial vendors.
* Develops and maintains a high level of knowledge of information resources, 
Abbott businesses and products, through independent study, formal training and 
actual usage.
* Collaborates and partners with other information-related groups and Subject 
Matter Experts within Abbott to introduce information solutions.
* Creates and regularly updates scientific content related to selected Abbott 
specific therapeutic areas and lines of business for the Library Portal.
* Develops and maintains "current awareness searches" and creates individual 
alerts to allow scientific customers from R&D, Medical, Regulatory, 
Pharmacovigilance etc. to stay current on their field of interest.

Skills/Experience Requirements
* Bachelor's Degree within a subject field relevant to Abbott's business or 
scientific interests including biology, medicine, pharmacy or chemistry, 
required, or relevant experience.
* Master's Degree in (Library) Information Science, with specialization in a 
scientific or healthcare related field, preferred
* A minimum of 4 years of experience in scientific information research and 
information delivery in a healthcare or related industry organization
* Fluent in both German and English
* In-depth knowledge of scientific, biomedical, pharmaceutical and healthcare 
database content and specifications
* In-depth knowledge of database hosts and systems and their retrieval languages
* High level of computer literacy, MS-Office and other IT systems relevant to 
information research post-processing, such as analysis and visualization tools
* Very good communication and teamwork skills to collaborate closely with 
colleagues and customers at other Abbott sites
* Highly responsive, customer-oriented and solution-oriented approach

Education Requirements
* Bachelor's Degree within a subject field relevant to Abbott's business or 
scientific interests including biology, medicine, pharmacy or chemistry, 
required, or relevant experience.
