Management Team

Job duties: 
To further increase the value of the book product portfolio, Springer decided 
to digitize all books ever published since 1842. For this project we are 
search-ing for a Data Manager who is responsible for the overall process chain 
starting with identification of archive titles and digital content creation up 
to the online publication and availability of data for print on demand purposes.

The scope of tasks involves data management on a large scale (bibliographic  
title metadata including author address data for rights retrieval, data formats 
e.g. PDF, XML) within Springer's IT system landscape and data flows. In 3-digit 
thousand entry area, metadata has to be gathered, rights cleared by using 
knowledge from internal content- and address-management systems. You should 
show interest in organization of data flows, data structuring and usage and  to 
understand the business requirements to propose and implement ro-bust solution 
design for the project. If involvement of vendors turns out necessary for 
capacity reasons, day-to-day coordination of vendors is required.

 

Job requirements: 

*       relevant (technical) education at Academic level in Information 
Technology (Databases, SQL, Data structures, XML), ideally in Natural Language 
Processing, Data Mining or Digital Libraries
*       excellent understanding of bibliographic metadata -  ability to turn 
complex problems into robust, workable solutions
*       analytical and conceptual level of thinking
*       methodological/well-structured
*       pragmatic and priority-oriented, result and quality oriented
*       ability to solve problems and deliver on time
*       project management knowledge
*       excellent command of English language in word and writing
*       ability to explain complex issues in a clear and concise way
*       excellent communication skills
*       familiar with functional design methods and workflow diagrams
