A report published today by the Library and Information Commission, calls
for radical rejuvenation of the public library system. The report, New
Library: The People'?s Network argues that public libraries, long seen as
centres of knowledge and learning, must be repositioned as the
communications backbone of the information society if the UK is to be a
dynamic and competitive force into the next millennium.
