Das Referendariat fuer den hoeheren Dienst oder ein postgradualer Master of 
Library Science werden als gleichwertig zum amerikanischen MLS anerkannt. Zudem 
wird mindestens ein Magister in Geschichte mit dem Schwerpunkt 
"nordamerikanische Geschichte" vorausgesetzt. Berufsanfaenger sind ebenfalls 
aufgefordert, sich zu bewerben.

spectrum of library resources, from rare books and manuscripts to rapidly

*RESPONSIBILITIES
*The Yale University Library seeks a committed and energetic subject specialist 
to serve the teaching and research needs of students and faculty associated 
with the study of American history This position offers an opportunity to 
deliver research education programs and develop collections in all formats in 
this subject and others as assigned. The successful candidate will also serve 
the broader information needs of the Yale community through participation in 
general reference and research education programs. The position will report to 
the Head of Research Services and Collections in Sterling Memorial Library.
The incumbent plans, promotes, and implements library research education 
programs in American history for undergraduates, graduates, and faculty in the 
History, American Studies, and African-American Studies departments. Serves as 
liaison to students and faculty in those departments. Develops and maintains 
the American history collection in all formats. Is also responsible for 
non-American history published in the United States. Provides general and 
specialized reference service to patrons in person, through email, over the 
telephone, and through the Librarys digital reference service. In collaboration 
with faculty and other technical staff, plans and implements projects in 
support of teaching and research. Serves on library committees, working groups, 
and task forces, and is expected to be professionally active.

*QUALIFICATIONS
*Graduate degree in American history or American studies with a history 
emphasis. Masters Degree from an ALA-accredited library science program or a 
foreign equivalent. (The library degree must be awarded before 30 June 2007). 
Demonstrated commitment to a high level of public service, especially research 
education. Demonstrated familiarity with information technologies and a high 
degree of computer literacy. Reading knowledge of one Western European language 
other than English, preferably Spanish. Excellent oral and written 
communication skills. Excellent teaching skills. Ability to work successfully 
in a highly collaborative environment. 

Appointment at Librarian II level requires a minimum of two years professional 
library experience and professional accomplishments; appointment at Librarian 
III level requires a minimum of five years relevant professional library 
experience as well as professional accomplishments.

*SALARY AND BENEFITS
*Competitive salary will be based upon the successful candidates qualifications
