"Wissensorganisation" is the name of a series of bi-annual
conferences/workshops with a long tradition organized by the German chapter
of the International Society of Knowledge Organisation (ISKO).

Knowledge organization as discipline has a long standing tradition.
Traditional knowledge organization focusses on the description and
structuring of knowledge in libraries, archives, databases, scientific
domains, etc. Besides formal relations, more or less all knowledge
organization systems (KOS) use words from natural languages and short
phrases to describe the concepts in the system. Though knowledge
organization systems are not intended to be used as lexical resources, the
meaning of the terms in a KOS usually is closely related to their common
meaning in science or application fields. Thus to some extent a KOS also
can figure as lexical resources.

Lexical resources (LR) provide linguistic information about words. This
information can be represented in very diverse data structures, from simple
lists to complex resources with many types of linguistic information and
relations associated with the entries stored in the resource. Since most
KOSs use natural language to describe concepts, LRs can have a high value
for the construction and extension of KOSs and for the identification of
concepts of KOSs in texts.

The workshop wants to contribute to the discussion and identification of
future research that combines language resources, especially lexical
resources in the context of knowledge organization.

The topics of interest include, but are not limited, to the following
aspects:

   - The Relation between Knowledge Organization Systems and Lexicons
   - The Role of Natural Language Labels for Concepts in Thesauri and
   Ontologies
   - Indexing of Texts with Concepts from Knowledge Organization Systems
   - Using Text Corpora for the Construction and Extension of Knowledge
   Organization Systems
   - Classification Schemes, Taxonomies, and Categorization Schemes
   - Thesauri, Semantic Networks and Ontologies
   - Knowledge Modeling and Engineering
   - Engineering and Management Aspects of Knowledge Organization
   - Automatic Categorization and Indexing
   - Knowledge Organization Systems for Understanding, Sensemaking, and
   Learning
   - Knowledge Organization Systems for Knowledge Discovery in Very Large
   Datasets
   - Organization of Unstructured Information
   - Knowledge Organization for the Future
