Data Scientist Training for Librarians (DST4L) will be in Europe for the first
time from 9-11 September 2015

Background
The amount of research data is growing exponentially. Digitalization, new
instruments and new methods create data on an unprecedented scale.
However, it also provides exciting new possibilities:

• to utilize the data more intensively and in new contexts

• to combine data sets across projects

• to visualize the data

• to uncover hidden and implicit knowledge in data sets

• to establish new collaborations and promote and accelerate research
and innovation.

Do librarians have a role in this development – we think so!
DST4L is aimed specifically at librarians and research librarians. The course
has international instructors who are specialists in teaching non-experts in
data processing, data analysis and visualization.

Seize the opportunity to open the door to a new and exciting career!
DST4L will provide a unique insight into what is a particularly hot topic in
the research (library) world right now and it could be the start of an
interesting career in a field that is undergoing rapid development. DST4L not
only provides an insight into data science, but also gives you direct practical
experience, as the course is largely based on hands-on training. Therefore, it
is essential that you are ready to be challenged on your skills – especially
IT-related skills – however, it is readiness for this, which is important and
not necessarily to master Python or GitHub from the start. We hope that the
training may help to create an interest among the participants of Data Science
because we believe that librarians possess basic skills that, in combination
with stronger IT skills and analytical skills, could become an extremely
powerful data scientist librarian profile.
Sign you up here http://www.altbibl.io/dtu/ before 10 June. NB! The number of
seats is limited.

Who is behind DST4L
DTU Library and DTU Bibliometrics and Data Management are hosts and
co-organizers of DST4L in collaboration with the EU project FOSTER
(https://www.fosteropenscience.eu/) and Chris Erdmann, Library Director of the
Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, who has also been the original
organizer of DST4L in the United States. DST4L has previously been successfully
held twice in the states.
