Log-Dateien

Hallo Liste,

ich habe mal einen sog. "Log-File-Analyzer" auf meine Seiten
angesetzt. Es handelt sich um ein Programm, in das das automatisch vom
WWW-Server generierte Log-File eingelesen wird. Das Programm (in
diesem Fall WebTrends) erstellt dann aus dieser - normalerweise viele
MegaBytes grossen - Datei beeindruckende Statistiken. U.a.

I found this in the front of an old book I bought recently. I have no
idea where it came from and don't really care. However, I do think it
is a wonderful piece so ...

Petition to the Reader

You, who for reading feel a boundless rage
And penetrate beyond the title page;
To you, this rude Petition I address,
In hopes you'll kindly lessen my distress,
but chiefly,ladies, your support I crave,
Oh! deign your helpless supplicant to save,
In me you view a wretch of strength devoid;
Like you, too oft neglected when enjoyed,
Ah! make me then the object of your care,
tear not my leaves to ornament your hair.
If married,save me from your husband's gripe,
Nor let my pages light your husband's pipe;
If I attend you when you sip your tea,
be careful not to spill it over me;
Fill not my bosum,when you eat,with crumbs,
Turn me not o'er,with damp or greasy thumbs;
Aside, your face turn when you cough;
And spare my corners where you last left off,
Avert such ills; or I, exposed to all
May unoffending prematurely fall;
So may my pages legible remain
And at some future period chase your pain,
Amusement with instruction strive to blend
And soothe your sorrows,when you want a friend;
So may your days be spent in social peace,
Your care diminish and your joys increase;
Your charms shine forth,unrivalled to the view
Avert such ills; or I, exposed to all
May unoffending prematurely fall;
So may my pages legible remain
And at some future period chase your pain,
Amusement with instruction strive to blend
And soothe your sorrows,when you want a friend;
So may your days be spent in social peace,
Your care diminish and your joys increase;
Your charms shine forth,unrivalled to the view
And gain the homage, to your merit due.
